Classic BAM Railway

  • BY PUBLIC TRAINS:

Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) is a unique adventure destination. There is a lot to see, learn, experience and do. Officially the passenger traffic on BAM railway opened in 1989. It took 10 years before the test trains took first passengers onboard. Mountains, marshes, permafrost challenge engineers daily. Even today, many parts of the road are traveled very slowly with caution. BAM railway is served by the standard Russian public trains, mostly regular and few express categories. NOTE that the prices you see on your left are for travel by "regular" trains in cabins with standard services (no meals). If you wish to travel in different class or make more stops, please inquire.

  • HIGHLIGHTS:

There are several ways to experience BAM Railroad. Most popular way is to combine it with the Trans-Siberian. If you are interested just in BAM, or if you are short on time, take a flight to the starting point. The BAM railway cuts through the area with very contrasty landscapes. The section between Severobaikalsk and Tynda cities is mountainous with lots of tunnels and spectacular views. The Kadar Mountain Range is simply stunning. The section between Tynda and Komsomolsk is a mix of lower mountains, marshes, tundra with lots of rivers and lakes. Both sections are very interesting and offer visitors pristine views with very little human presence. The towns and villages along the road are rare with population from few people to few thousands. Live is very basic along the BAM railroad, so are people.
